6 wounded in Chicago Afro-Violence


At least six people, including three teenagers, were shot in various incidents in the West and South sides late Monday afternoon and evening, according to police.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the East Garfield Park neighborhood just before 7 p.m., police said. The boy was standing in a doorway on the 700 block of North Harding Avenue when he heard a gunshot and saw that he had been hit in the left thigh, police said. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

An 18-year-old woman was shot in lower leg the Washington Park neighborhood around 5:30 p.m., according to police. The victim was walking on the 5900 block of South Michigan Avenue when she heard shots and realized that she’d been hit, police said. She was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in good condition.

About 30 minutes later, an 18-year-old man was shot in the back in Marquette Park. The man was riding his bike on the 2700 block of West 65th Street when an unknown offender produced a gun and fired, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in stable condition, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the back in the Englewood neighborhood around 4:30 p.m., police said. The victim was driving on the 7000 block of South Justine Street when an unknown number of offenders in a vehicle rammed his car from behind then pulled up alongside and fired shots into the victim’s car. The offenders’ vehicle, described as a red Jeep or sport utility vehicle, then fled west on West 71st Street and north on South Ashland Avenue. Police said the incident is believed to be gang-related. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

Two men were victims of a drive-by shooting in Roseland around 7:30 p.m., police said. The men, ages 22 and 24, were standing on the sidewalk at the 0-100 block of West 103rd Street when offenders in a red Ford 4-door fired at them, striking both victims in the right leg, police said. Both men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition.

No one was in custody for any of the shootings and area detectives were investigating.
