Quote:
After his success with his film Les Quatre cents coups, François Truffaut decided to have a go as a producer. In 1961, he encouraged his assistant Claude de Givray to collaborate with him on a film adaptation of a comic play about army life, Tire-au-flanc.
Although the collaboration was an amiable one which produced an entertaining film, the outcome was far from successful. The film proved to be a commercial disaster and caused Truffaut to renounce any ambitions to produce his own films in future.
