Ferrara Pan Candy Co. called local police last week to have Sal Ferrara II, the company's president, removed from the premises.

Forest Park deputy chief Tom Aftanas confirmed that Ferrara was removed from the company's headquarters last Wednesday.

Police responded to a disturbance call, and spent about 20 minutes at the family-owned candy company based in Forest Park. Aftanas said that Ferrara made the call to police, but after three officers arrived on the scene, it became clear that it was Ferrara who needed to be removed.

Aftanas described the incident as "a family thing," and said Ferrara eventually left the building willingly, was not placed in handcuffs, and that no charges have been filed.

Ferrara's status with the company is unclear. Calls to the company and Ferrara were not immediately returned.

Ferrara brands include Lemonheads, Red Hots, Atomic Fireballs, Boston Baked Beans and Ferrara Premium Chocolates. Sal Ferrara initiated the company’s push into chocolate in recent years, after the company lost a contract to distribute Toblerone chocolates for Northfield-based Kraft Foods Co.
