Grieving man accused of threatening chicago police
As a black Chicago man lay dead on a South Side porch of an apparent heroin overdose, a grieving friend threatened to slit the throat of a police officer while trying to push his way toward the body, leading to his arrest, authorities said today.
Lamar Moore, 42, was part of a crowd that had gathered to watch as authorities investigated the death of Darryl Wheat, 51, at about 11 p.m. Friday, according to a police report.
Police struggled to hold back the people who tried to approach the body at a home in the 5500 block of South Princeton Avenue in the Fuller Park neighborhood.
As police tried to keep Moore away from his dead friend, he threatened to kill an officer and spouted obscenities, police said. He continued to struggle as he was handcuffed and hauled away, authorities said.
At the station, authorities said he explained his consistent problems with police by saying, “They’re always (messing) with me.”
Moore, of the 900 block of West 53rd Place, was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond Saturday morning in Cook County criminal court. He is charged with aggravated assault on an officer and two counts of resisting an officer.
Heroin is believed to have caused the death of Moore’s friend Wheat, who shared the same address on West 53rd Place, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Toxicology results are pending.
