It's Women Driving Into Bodies of Water Weekend.... Woman, daughter hurt when SUV goes into lagoon
A woman and her 10-year-old daughter were taken to a downtown hospital this morning after their sport utility vehicle went into a Jackson Park lagoon when the woman had a dizzy spell while driving, authorities said.
The two were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good-to-fair condition after the vehicle went into the water just after 7:35 a.m. in a lagoon in Jackson Park, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.
The woman, 42, told police she was driving her 2012 Toyota Highlander south near Cornell Avenue when she had a dizzy spell, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The woman woke up to find the SUV in the water, but she and her daughter were both able to get out of the vehicle's windows and get to shore, where they waited for police and fire officials, Perez said.
The girl was treated and released from Northwestern, and the mother, who was in good-to-fair condition, was kept for observation because of the dizzy spell, police said.
