Oprah to get Chicago street named after her

A section of street near Oprah Winfrey's Near West Side studio will be named after her, Mayor Richard Daley announced today.

"It makes me very, very proud to have your name appear on one of Chicago's city streets," Daley said outside Harpo Studios, adding that Winfrey has "been a gift (to Chicago) for over two decades."

"This is better than an Oscar or an Emmy," Winfrey joked.

"I just would like to say thank you to. . .the mayor and also to the city of Chicago for embracing me and allowing me to make a stand here," she continued, calling Chicago the "greatest city in the world."

The announcement comes as Winfrey's iconic, Chicago-based talk show nears its end. The final episode of the Chicago show will air May 25.
