Chicago's acting top cop sets high goals - Garry McCarthy wants to 'change the way we do police work in this country'
Two weeks after Garry McCarthy took over as Chicago's acting police superintendent, his fifth-floor office at police headquarters on South Michigan Avenue remains strewn with boxes of files, old plaques and paperwork.
"Every day I'm trying to get like one thing unpacked," McCarthy said in an interview Tuesday. "Right now, I'm looking for my bills in there. I've got to pay some bills before I lose my house in New York."
Such distractions aren't keeping McCarthy from aiming high in his new job. He said he wants to do nothing less than "change the way we do police work in this country."
