The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is investigating the armed robbery of four teenagers in Beverly to see if it is also connected to a series of strong-armed robberies that occurred locally between May 7 and May 15, according to an official from Chicago’s Area 2 Detective Division.

The four teenagers were robbed at gunpoint on May 15 at approximately 3 p.m. on the 9400 block of South Oakley Avenue, according to an officer from the 22nd District of the CPD.

According to the police report, the teens were walking west in the vicinity of 94th Street and Oakley Avenue when two men walking in the opposite direction passed them, turned around and began following them. One of the men grabbed one of the teens and demanded the victim’s belongings while the other man stood guard, the report said. One of the men then displayed a “small blue steel automatic handgun,” and the teens handed over their belongings, which included two purses, an iPod, a cell phone, house keys and $53 in cash. The two men then fled on foot north on Oakley Avenue.

On May 7, two men took two cell phones and $20 in cash from a man walking on the 9400 block of South Oakley Avenue at 11 p.m.

On May 8, a teen on a bike was surrounded by four men who knocked him to the ground and took a wallet containing a train pass and $20 in cash. The incident occurred on the 2300 block of West 101st Street at 9 p.m.

On May 9, three men jumped out of a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the 10000 block of South Western Avenue, pushed a man to the ground and took $300 from him.

On May 10, three men approached a person sitting on a bench at the 103rd Street Metra station at 9:20 p.m. and began hitting him on the face and body with their fists, according to the police report. The victim fell to the ground, and the offenders kicked him and took his belongings, including an iPad, a cell phone and a wallet containing a credit card.

On May 13, a 16-year-old boy was on the playground of a school on the 10000 block of South Hamilton Avenue at 10:15 p.m. when he was approached by three men and punched in the face. The men took a cell phone and $20 from the teen.

On May 15, a driver was delivering food from a business on the 10900 block of South Western Avenue when three men surrounded him, punched him in the mouth and took $150 in currency. The crime occurred on the 11200 block of South Eggleston Avenue at 4:05 p.m., the police report said.

A robbery of an iPhone from a teen on the 10100 block of South Western Avenue on March 31 also fits the pattern of the other crimes, detectives said. In that report, four men surrounded the teen and demanded his phone.

In the police reports for each of the robberies, the offenders are described as black males between the ages of 17 and 21.
