One person was reported dead Tuesday night in a police-involved shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood on Chicago's Far South Side, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 11 p.m. at 123rd Street and Lowe Avenue.
Three Chicago police officers were near 124th and Wallace Streets, where they spotted two men. One of the two was seen reaching in his waistband as if he was carrying a gun, authorities said, citing preliminary information.
That man started running north from the scene, while the other stayed behind, authorities said. The officers ran after the first man who turned around and opened fire at them, but missed, authorities said.
The officers returned fire at the shooter, who collapsed a short time later nearby, authorities said.
That shooter, believed to be in his late teens, died. Authorities said a gun was confiscated from the scene. No officers were reported injured, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed an investigator was sent out to 123rd Street and Lowe Avenue for a deceased person.
