Woman shot at 57th Street Beach dies - But they closed down the North Ave Beach!

A 22-year-old Calumet City woman who was critically shot at the 57th Street Beach late Memorial Day has died, authorities said this morning.

The death of Aeyanuna Rogers raised the holiday slaying total to seven. At least 20 other people were wounded in the spate of holiday violence.

Rogers, of the 600 block of Escanaba Avenue in Calumet City, was shot about 11:15 p.m. Police said she was walking with a friend to the beach's restrooms on the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive when they heard a group of males arguing.

They heard shots and took off running. When Rogers' friend looked back, she saw Rogers lying face down on the ground.

Rogers was a recent Northern Illinois University graduate with a degree in child development, according to WLS-Ch. 7,

She was pronounced dead Tuesday at 1:58 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Another victim, a 17-year-old boy, was shot at the same time at the same location, police said. His account corroborated that of Rogers' friend, police said. His mother drove him to Provident Hospital, where he was treated for a leg wound.
