At least 11 wounded in Chicago heat (violence)


At least 11 people were wounded in overnight violence around the city, officials said.

At 9:18 p.m. Friday, a 28-year-old man was critically shot in his head and back as he was walking in the 4200 block of South Lake Shore Drive, according to a release from police News Affairs. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
At 10:50 p.m. in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, a 30-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 3900 block of West Van Buren Street, the release said. A person was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to a Fire Media Affairs spokesman.

About 11 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood, two men were playing dice in the 6500 block of South Justine Street when an attacker emerged from a gangway and fired shots, wounding both of them, a release said. A 22-year-old man was shot in his back and buttocks and a 24-year-old man was shot in the hand.

One was taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and another went to Holy Cross Hospital, the Fire Media Affairs spokesman said.

At 11:06 p.m. in the Gresham neighborhood, two men were outside standing at a corner in the 7900 block of South Laflin Street when they were shot. A 25-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his back and a 29-year-old man was shot in his thigh, the release said.

The 25-year-old was listed in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and the 29-year-old was listed in stable at Stroger, the release said.

At 2:07 a.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police found a 26-year-old man shot on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Wood Street, the release said. He was listed in stable condition at Stroger.

At 3:05 a.m. in the Avalon Park neighborhood, a man was shot in the back in the 8100 block of South Avalon Avenue, police said.

At 4:15 a.m., three people were shot in the 6400 block of South Bishop Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. The ages, genders and conditions of the people were not immediately known.

The injured were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, Greer said.

No one was in custody for any incident and area detectives were investigating.
