A 9-year-old boy was shot and wounded tonight in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood, police said.
Details remained sketchy, but the child was struck in the back at about 7:15 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Campbell Avenue, police said, citing early reports.
The boy was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where his condition reportedly was stabilized, said police spokesman Officer Phil Armstrong.
Armstrong would only identify the boy as a minor, but a Chicago Lawn District officer said the child is 9. No other details were available.
Fire department officials said their ambulances didn't take the boy to the hospital.
