UPDATE: 2nd Chicago Police Shooting for Memorial Day - Teen injured in shooting involving off-duty officer

Chicago, IL - bullet from an off-duty Chicago police officer's gun grazed a man's finger when the man tried to disarm the officer during a struggle this evening in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, a police source said.

The officer had seen the man fire shots moments earlier -- at about 6:30 p.m. -- into a park near the 6000 block of South Vernon Avenue, the source said.

The man then took off on a bicycle, with the officer chasing him in his car, the source said.

The officer caught up with the man in an alley on the 6200 block of South Vernon and tried to arrest him, the source said. During the struggle, the man tried to take the officer's gun, which discharged, the source said.

The man's gun was found near the scene, the source said.

The ages of the man and the officer were not available. The officer suffered minor injuries in the struggle, the police source said. Both he and the other man were taken to hospitals.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.

A teen was injured this evening after he was shot in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.

Officials were notified about the shooting at about 6:09 p.m. which occurred on the 6200 block of South Vernon Avenue, police said.

The shooting involved an off-duty officer who was not injured and a teen who sustained a gunshot wound, police said.

The circumstances leading to the shooting and the teen's condition were not available.
