Good Work By Evanston Police = Police operation targets parolees

Evanston police took 27 Evanston parolees into custody early Thursday morning, recovering an assault rifle, cash and cannabis in the process, authorities announced.

The parolee compliance check operation involved members of the Evanston police department as well as Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Division personnel.

“The three main objectives of this operation focus on ensuring parolee compliance with their restrictions as granted under their parole, debriefing and gathering intelligence, and conducting parolee drug testing,” authorities said in a release.

Parolees found in violation of their parole status were subject to arrest and incarceration, police said. Fifty parolees were targeted, and 27 were taken into custody and brought back to Evanston police headquarters for processing, according to police.

Of those taken into custody, one was arrested on weapons charges after police said they recovered an M-1 30-caliber assault rifle. Two were arrested on outstanding arrest warrants and three were arrested for cannabis possession, police said. Additionally, $15,000 in cash was recovered.
