ILLEGAL BEANER Carlos Estrada stopped for DUI on day he’s to be sentenced for DUI

A Berwyn man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Wednesday only hours before he was to be sentenced for another DUI and more than 25 yeas after his license was revoked.

Carlos Estrada, 42, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, Riverside police said. A charge of aggravated DUI is pending the outcome of the blood and urine tests, police said.

A Riverside officer stopped a car about 9 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Lawton Road for an expired registration sticker. But the car drove off at a high rate of speed southbound on Harlem.

Officers pursued the car, but the chase was stopped for safety concerns.

Then about 1 a.m. Wednesday a Riverside officer spotted the car and followed it to Estrada’s home, police said.

Estrada got out of the car and ran, but was arrested a short chase.

“Mr. Estrada has not had a valid driver’s license since September of 1985 and has been arrested several times in the past for driving while license suspended or revoked,” Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel said in a news release. “On the day he was arrested by Riverside officers, he was due in court for sentencing on a DUI charge that originated in Berwyn.”

Estrada was found to be driving on a license revoked for three DUI convictions, the release said. He also faces numerous traffic citations, the release said.
