Ghettolicious Chicago Violence Leaves At Least 10 Shot & 1 Dead
At least 10 people were wounded and one man killed in shootings this afternoon and evening across the city, Chicago police said.
One man was killed and another critically injured in a shooting around 1:50 p.m. on the 3000 block of North California Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood, police said.
Both victims -- a 22-year-old man shot in the head and a 21-year-old man shot in the chest -- were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. The younger victim, identified as Jesus Gamboa of the 2900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
A police spokeswoman said the shooting was believed to be gang related.
On the city’s Far North Side, an 18-year-old man was shot in the head at about 7:45 p.m. as he stood beside a bench in Touhy Park on the 7300 block of North Clark Street, police said.
The unidentified man was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in extremely critical condition, according to a police spokesman.
Police had few additional details immediately on the shooting and had not yet made any arrest in the case.
At about 8:30 p.m., two boys, ages 13 and 17, were shot and wounded on the 1200 block of South Avers Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said.
Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, police said. The wounds were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
Earlier in the day, a man in his 20s was shot in the head on the 6500 block of South Sangamon Street just before 5 p.m. when a car pulled up and someone started firing, police said. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition.
The Wentworth police District had two separate shootings only about 15 minutes apart.
The earlier shooting involved a 28-year-old man wounded in the abdomen on the 100 block of East 47th Street just after 6 p.m., police said. The victim was taken to a local hospital in fair condition police said.
At about 6:17 p.m., less than a mile away, four men were reportedly shot on the 300 block East 43rd Street, police said.
A 62-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, while a 28-year-old man suffered a wound to the buttocks, police said. The two other victims, whose ages weren't known, drove themselves to Provident Hospital.
Details of both shootings remained sketchy as Wentworth Area detectives investigated.
